Project Highlights

Curricular:

A curricular focus I'd like to highlight would be my involvement in the COMS Innovation Lab, a class led by Dean Scott Titsworth alongside members of my OHP cohort. Through the collaboration of my other cohort members, we were able to find social media solutions to benefit a local non-profit organization, the SugarBush Foundation. The class worked in teams to determine different solutions and paths for the company to follow for different social media sites, including FaceBook and Instagram. This experience was able to fulfill research, community engagement, leadership, and creativity, a well-rounded experience that has developed my workflow process throughout my college experience.

Co-Curricular

For my co-curricular focus, I'd like to focus on my involvement as the Edit Engineer and Vocal Percussionist for the virtual a cappella group, Ebb N' Flo. This a cappella group is a culmination of efforts between myself and 6 of my friends to create music we want to be proud of and to further our involvement in the music realm.

As the lead edit engineer, I focus on ensuring the recorded tracks from each of the members are fully timed, in pitch, and cleaned up to be prepped for mixing and release. I take charge in ensuring that each session is fine-tuned to the finest detail, with multiple layers of tracks to achieve a wide and rich sonic character, multiple rounds of timing with each being more minute than the last, and ensure each track has no audible issues in maintaining clarity and character to create a blended sound.

I collaborate with the Music Director of the group to make sure each track has been recorded to their specific stylistic direction and determine whether or not certain members may need to re-record. This is to maximize our efforts to maintain a unified, signature sound that sets our group apart from the rest.

Pathway Reflection

Throughout my college experience, I've been able to understand and involve myself in various roles of leadership. I have found this to be beneficial in understanding my collaboration efforts with those around me, as well as to help rally those I work alongside towards a common goal.

I have always found myself continuing to push forward in collaborating with other students, different organizations, student-led groups, etc. and have wanted to give back to those around me. Although this could be seen as community engagement, I have wanted to find ways to give back by becoming a leader in some way to fulfill my vision and visions of those around me to work towards a common endpoint.

I have been able to work as the Director or Executive Mentorship within OU's Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre, a role in which I pair students with professional mentors to help them gain access to first-hand mentorship and leanings that stretch beyond a career fair or other larger networking events.

I have also taken on a job as a Student Manager in Boyd Market in an effort to understand collective delegation of tasks while holding myself to a higher standard. This has allowed me to understand how I can effectively communicate to those around me to ensure quality service in a student led market.
